LLM – INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS LAW

LLM in the University of Bedfordshire, you will develop the legal expertise and intellectual understanding to establish yourself in international practice, academic institutions or in a range of other high-level roles. Your main focus will be on understanding the complex relationships between business environments and the legal, regulatory frameworks in which they operate.

Program Mission

Taking into consideration the interrelationship between law and business, you will have the opportunity to consider and resolve legal and regulatory problems through collaborative activities. LLM in the University of Bedfordshire emphasises the applied practical approach of business law and, as such, looks to the resolution of problems through an examination of different legal and business perspectives.

We will consider you as an individual and take into account all elements of your application, not just your qualifications. We are looking for breadth and depth in your current studies and enthusiasm for the subject you wish to study. Standard entry students will need to have an undergraduate degree in either Law or any field. Applications from non-law graduates will be considered on an individual basis according to the applicant’s qualifications and relevant professional experience. Transfer applicants will be required to go through the Recognition of Prior Learning process (RPL), whilst non-standard applicants will need to evidence their relevant work experience.

The types of assessment which you will encounter in this course include:

• Individual Written Report or Research Essay: these assessments will enable you to develop your knowledge, legal research and critical analysis skills. The whole process will contribute to your development when it comes to conducting postgraduate level research and developing your enterprise. You will be required to perform literature informed research, review and evaluate the relevant sources and use an appropriate methodology in order to analyse and evaluate the relevant concepts. Your close adherence to the principles of academic integrity will also be assessed.
• Case Study: this will require you to apply your subject-specific knowledge in the context of a specific factual scenario.
• Oral Presentation: by presenting your research and arguments in a formal setting, you will develop a number of transferable skills, including, in particular, the ability to present your ideas and findings in a professional, clear and concise manner.
• Mooting: this will develop your legal research, writing and advocacy skill by requiring you to develop legally sound and effective legal arguments in support of your (fictional) client’s position and articulate and defend those arguments during a simulated trial/arbitration.
• Dissertation: you will have to produce an individual, independent piece of work. You will be asked to identify the research question or problem under investigation, review the relevant literature, develop a sound methodology in order to explore the problem, proceed with the analysis, discuss your findings and make recommendations. 

The University of Bedfordshire fee will be directly payable to the university on the given deadline, which will be communicated to the student in the Acceptance Letter when the student successfully secures a place in the programme. The fee will be due annually for the duration of the degree. IVY fee will be charged on a semester-wise basis. Law graduates enjoy, on average higher starting salaries than graduates in most other disciplines. Sectors in which you will potentially be able to pursue a career include:

• legal practice as a barrister or a solicitor (having obtained any necessary professional qualification);
• paralegal in a specialized law firm;
• employment within government departments, financial institutions, international organizations, central banks, multinational corporations, consultancy firms, and specialist non-governmental organizations

This course also provides an excellent pathway for further studies, including postgraduate research at the MPhil and PhD levels.

The LLM in the University of Bedfordshire is taught using face-to-face learning. Students will have access to IVY resources as well as the University of Bedfordshire BREO/VLE to complete their studies/modules. Support will be provided by local and link tutors at IVY and UOB.
